SYNOPSIS:Barbara Stanwyck plays a taxi dancer trying to rise above her low station in life but makes the mistake of marrying Eddie (Monroe Owsley), an unrepentent gambler who won't get a job nor contribute to their income. When Eddie accrues a huge gambling debt he can't pay. Barbara turns to a wealthy dance hall patron (Ricardo Cortez) and ardent suitor for help. An early directorial effort for Oscar winning actor Lionel Barrymore (1931, Best Actor, A Free Soul), Ten Cents a Dance is an earthly but compelling dramatic showcase for Stanwyck and demonstrates her expertise at playing streetwise working girls who can be both vulnerable and tough in equal measures.
