SYNOPSIS:
No director? No leading lady? No problem! If no one will work with actor Jack Carson (who plays himself), he'll just pull his own movie together. Good buddy Dennis Morgan can be hoodwinked into co-starring. And there's a talented kid in the studio commissary (Day) eager for her big break.

In her third film (and third with Carson), Doris Day plays that up-and-comer in a bright filmmaking spoof featuring melodic toe-tappers, real Hollywood and Warner Bros. back lot locales, star cameos (Gary Cooper, Joan Crawford, Edward G. Robinson, among others) and a surprise comedy finale.

A small gem, not a great film but a fun look at what some non-A listers might have done to get themselves into films. For the first half, we are treated to a host of cameos, an amazing list, too, considering the premise of the film is that no one wants to work with Jack Carson!

This is more his film but Doris Day ends up making a solid contribution, perhaps more than a "3rd ever" film's audience suspected.

For a minor film, I'd give it an easy 4. For a major film, it probably only ranks as 'average' but when I'm in the mood for one of these 'minor gems', this would come towards the top.
