SYNOPSIS:
His Picture in the Papers (1916, 52 min)
Douglas Fairbanks built his career on peppy five-reelers like "His Picture in the Papers," scripted by John Emerson and Anita Loos. It pokes fun at both the vegetarianism craze, and the modern American obsession with fame. More than anything, though, it's a showcase for Fairbanks and his cheerful, energetic personality, as he plays a young man who can win his sweetheart's hand if he can only manage to get himself famous in a hurry. There's plenty of action, winding up with a rousing climax involving a gang of criminals and a speeding locomotive. Some say that Erich von Stroheim was an uncredited assistant director on this film. Organ score by Bob Vaughn.
At Dawn (1914, 14 min)
This one-reel drama offers a rare look at Wallace Reid, in the early days of his stardom. In the popular Paramount features that lay ahead of him, Reid would play a genial, heroic type... but in this rather sordid short subject he's the complete opposite of that!
BONUS FEATURE:
- A photo gallery of Douglas Fairbanks portraits, postcards, glass slides and movie posters.
