SYNOPSIS:This class-conscious melodrama stars Barbara Stanwyck as Kitty, a waitress who falls in love with wealthy college student Dave (Regis Toomey) despite opposition from his high society mother (Clara Blandick). After being sent to a female reformatory on a trumped-up morals charge, Kitty reinvents herself as a showgirl but finds her love for Dave undiminished when they meet again six years later. Subjected to numerous revisions and cuts by the Production Code Administration for its portrayal of "a loose and immoral woman," Shopworn is vintage Stanwyck and a good warm-up for her most notorious Pre-Code film the following year, Baby Face(1933).
