SYNOPSIS:
If the idea of James Stewart masquerading as a gangly Boy Scout leader in oversized pants and Coke-bottle glasses makes you laugh, It’s a Wonderful World awaits! This wisecracking classic scripted by screwball master Ben Hecht (Twentieth Century, Nothing Sacred, His Girl Friday) stars Stewart and the marvelous Claudette Colbert in their only screen pairing.

He’s a private eye on the run from a conspiracy rap in a phony murder case. She’s a dizzy poet he takes hostage…and takes on the adventure of her life to track down the real killer. Naturally, despite constant peril and the PI’s penchant for goofball disguises, romance blooms.

Join two iconic stars in a comic world that’s wacky, witty and completely wonderful.

Given the talent involved in this, it's a MAJOR disappointment. It feels like a hybrid of "It Happened One Night" and a Thin Man mystery and it simply does not work. You're better off watching the prior works for a 2nd or 3rd time than watching this one even once.

There's no chemistry between Colbert and Stewart, and it's not very funny. Nor does it make much sense, and the illogic is compounded by too many lucky coincidences. Colbert plays a "runaway poetess." (Right -- those poetesses are always running away!) That should be the tip-off to how little logic exists in this movie. We're not really rooting for any of the characters either. Stewart, miscast as a private detective, is in it totally for the money, and although his client has been framed for murder, the client is a drunk and a complete jerk so there's not even an emotional reason to worry that he may go to the electric chair.

Everyone associated with this film has done far better work, which makes this one even worse -- "A" students turning in "C minus" work.

‘It’s a Wonderful World’ is not funny enough to be a comedy and not suspenseful enough to be a thriller. That’s not to say it doesn’t have it’s moments of semi-mysteries and smiles. The typical old movie banter between Jimmy Stewart (as convicted private detective on the run Guy Johnson) and Claudette Colbert ( who plays his kidnapped victim turned loyal partner, poetess Edwina Corday) is what gives this picture the little moxie that it has.

My wife could only compare this film to Jimmy’s widely better known wonderful film, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life”, which has angels and kids which produces more wonders. IAWW is not like sucking lemons but it’s not like drinking lemonade either.

Overall Rating: Kinna There. Would recommend it only to Die Hard Jimmy Stewart fans but would recommend his Frank Capra films to anyone who wants to watch wonderful movies.
