SYNOPSIS:
Quitting his bank job of fifteen years to open a fix-it shop, Wilbert Winkle (Edward G. Robinson) begins questioning his choice after his wife, Amy (Ruth Warrick), starts nagging him. Though surprised to receive a draft notice, the middle-aged Wilbert responds.

And after ending up in the South Pacific where his wits and courage make him a most unlikely hero, the unassuming Winkle heads back home content to resume life where he left off. This charming war-time comedy was helmed by veteran Columbia director Alfred E. Green.

A favorite but admittedly not a great film. "Favorite" because it gives us another look at Edward G's "small meek guy" role. Juxtapose this one against TIGHT SPOT (his similar role in DOUBLE INDEMNITY too), FIVE STAR FINAL (a powerhouse of righteous indignation character) or his gangster roles, and we have a Completely Edward G role that's also Completely Different. High recommendations for not a great film - just to see Edward G deliver something different, and quite well.
