WARNER ARCHIVE: Fibber McGee and Molly & Kirby Grant, Vol. 2

Two releases this week from Warner's Archive Collection: A Fibber McGee and Molly Double Feature and Kirby Grant & Chinook, Vol. 2.

Each will be a single disc release and be available here at ClassicFlix on February 4th.

These new DVDs add to the total of over 1,200 Warner Archive titles exclusively available for rent at ClassicFlix.com.

One of the longest-running comedy series in radio history, Fibber McGee and Molly starred Jim and Marian Jordan as a blowhard husband and his patient, long-suffering wife. Airing from 1935 to 1959, the series introduced a host of memorable supporting characters (Gildersleeve, Beulah, Wallace Wimple) as well as catchphrases that became part of the vernacular (Taint funny, McGee!).

The Jordans also appeared in feature films, and this uproarious collection spotlights Fibber, Molly and the rest of the gang in two of their funniest adventures:

Here We Go Again (1942, 77 min.)
Fibber and Molly celebrate their 20th anniversary at Silver Tip Lodge where they run into Edgar Bergen, Charlie McCarthy, Ray Noble, Harold Peary (the Great Gildersleeve), Bill Thompson (Wallace Wimple) and Mortimer Snerd.

Heavenly Days (1944, 71 min.)
The McGees take a trip to Washington, D.C., where Fibber intends to show those government fellows how to do things.

Welcome back to the wild wild Northwest! Kirby Grant (TVs Sky King) and Chinook the Wonder Dog are back to battle evildoers and protect the innocent across the tundra in this trio of action-packed adventures culled from the hit Monogram series of pictures. Based on the works of James Oliver Curwood, the films detail the arctic circle adventures of the mighty Mountie Cpl. Rod Webb (Grant) and his faithful canine companion, Chinook.

Legendary director Oscar Budd Boetticher helms the first feature, The Wolf Hunters, which sees Rod and Chinook hot on the trail of a murderous fur thief and uncovering a criminal conspiracy. In the next installment, Snow Dog, its dog vs. wolf as Chinook (and Rod) battles a murderous white wolf that bears an uncanny resemblance to Chinook himself. Finally, Call of the Klondike sees Mountie and dog searching for missing prospectors and finding secret gold mines, treachery and love.
