CRITERION: It Happened One Night Debuts on Blu

Criterion has announced a November 18th street date for the 1934 romantic comedy, It Happened One Night, on a newly restored DVD (2-disc) and Blu-Ray.

Originally released on DVD in 1999 via Sony, it was also included as part of the Premiere Frank Capra Collection in 2006.

A few fascinating bonus features are planned to accompany the sets including Capra's first film (below).

NOTE: Since last September, Criterion had only released DVD / Blu-Ray combo packs; however, since last month's announcement of The Innocents, home video's premiere label has shunned the costly combined sets for separate releases.

BONUS FEATURES:

  • New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray
  • New conversation between critics Molly Haskell and Phillip Lopate
  • Frank Capra's American Dream, a 1997 feature-length documentary
  • Director Frank Capra's first film, the 1922 silent short The Ballad of Fisher's Boarding House
  • American Film Institute tribute to Capra from 1982
  • Trailer
  • PLUS: An essay by critic Farran Smith Nehme
