CRITERION: The Palm Beach Story Gets Blu-Ray Premiere

Criterion has announced a January 20th street date for the 1942 romantic comedy, The Palm Beach Story, on a newly restored DVD and Blu-Ray.

Originally released on DVD in 2005 via Universal, it was also included as part of the Preston Sturges Filmmaker Collection in 2006.

A few bonus features are planned to accompany each disc (below).

NOTE: Since last September, Criterion had only released DVD / Blu-Ray combo packs; however, since September's release of The Innocents, home video's premiere label has shunned the costly combined sets for separate releases.

BONUS FEATURES:

  • New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray
  • New interview with writer and film historian James Harvey about director Preston Sturges
  • New interview with actor and comedian Bill Hader about Sturges
  • Safeguarding Military Information, a 1942 World War II propaganda short written by Sturges
  • Screen Guild Theater radio adaptation of the film from March 1943
  • PLUS: An essay by critic Stephanie Zacharek
