CRITERION: A Day in the Country Premieres in February

Criterion has announced a February 10th street date for the 1936 French drama, A Day in the Country, on DVD and Blu-Ray.

This is the first time the Jean Renoir classic will be released on DVD and Blu after years of being available only on French import.

A few bonus features are planned to accompany each disc (below).

NOTE: Since last September, Criterion had only released DVD / Blu-Ray combo packs; however, since September's release of The Innocents, home video's premiere label has shunned the costly combined sets for separate releases.

BONUS FEATURES:

  • New 2K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray
  • Introduction by director Jean Renoir from 1962
  • The Road to 'A Day in the Country,' a new interview with Renoir scholar Christopher Faulkner about the film's production
  • Renoir at Work, a new video essay by Faulkner on Renoir's methods
  • Un tournage à la campagne, an eighty-nine-minute 1994 compilation of outtakes from the film
  • Interview with producer Pierre Braunberger from 1979
  • Screen tests
  • New English subtitle translation
  • PLUS: An essay by film scholar Gilberto Perez
