SITE NEWS: Change of Rental Home, New ClassicFlix Label

Renting DVDs & Blu-rays at the ClassicFlix.com web address is changing and a newly redesigned, retail-only ClassicFlix.com will emerge in the next month or so featuring our own home video label.

GOING UNDERGROUND

Sometime late next week, a “Coming Soon” page will go up at ClassicFlix.com and the current ClassicFlix site will transfer over to a new home: classicflixunderground.com.

As the founder and owner of ClassicFlix, I’ve always enjoyed sharing our vast collection of classic films and TV shows with thousands of like-minded fans across the country. It was never a money-maker (as most of our revenue comes from the sales of physical media), but I kept it going all these years for the benefit of those, like me, who prefer to watch their favorite classics on DVD and Blu-ray.

I still want to keep it going, but due to the rebranding of ClassicFlix as a retail site featuring our own home video label, as well as the additional cost of integrating rentals into the new design, it has to go underground.

After the switch, ONLY CURRENT AND FORMER RENTAL MEMBERS WILL HAVE EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO OUR RENTAL SERVICE. They will be able to do so in the exact same way they do now with two exceptions: 1) The web address will be classicflixunderground.com, 2) The site will be gated so an initial login will be required to access the site.

That means that NO NEW RENTAL MEMBERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE SWITCH AS THE SITE WILL REQUIRE AN EXISTING USER NAME AND PASSWORD TO GET IN.

So DVD and Blu-ray rentals will still be available like they’ve always been, with no planned price increases, just at a new address. This will allow us as a company to focus our marketing efforts toward buyers of physical media and our new home video label.

CLASSICFLIX HOME VIDEO

I am thrilled to announce we are launching our own home video label under the “ClassicFlix” banner with our first releases coming in late March.

Like many good independent labels, we plan to make available long-neglected classic films -- some which have never been released on DVD or Blu-ray and some which badly need restoration. I’m not able to disclose what our releases will be at this time, but I hope to make an announcement early next week.
