NEWSLETTER #13: Famous Studios Cartoons, Lock-Up Restored in 4K & More!

ClassicFlix Newsletter - Volume 4, Issue 2

FAMOUS STUDIOS COLLECTION

Partner label Cartoon Logic is just getting warmed up!

After the successful release of their first collection last month, Aesop's Fables - The 1920s, Volume 1, the newly formed animation outfit is planning a very busy 2026.

With several unnamed projects forthcoming, we don't have specific details, but we can share that one of the soon-to-be-announced sets will be a collection of Famous Studios cartoons, newly scanned and restored from original 35mm film elements.

As just a sample of what to expect, below you'll find a restored clip of the Noveltoon Sheep Shape (1946), one of the shorts to be included in the upcoming Famous collection which has previously only been seen in very faded, damaged prints.

LOCK UP TV SERIES

We mentioned in our June newsletter that the crime drama series Lock-Up (1959-1961) starring Macdonald Carey would be delayed due to us forgoing already scanned 16mm prints in favor of 35mm material. Well, we can now report that the new scans we've received so far are not just from 35mm prints or pre-print material, but they are all from the original camera negatives and scanned in 4K!

Check out the amazing clarity of the raw scan clip below (in 4K) which has been color graded, but is nearly pristine without any restoration work done to date. Expect volume 1 of a Rare TV Blu-ray release (and DVD) of Lock-Up late spring/early summer of 2026.

CLASSICFLIX STREAMING

While we eventually plan to have our own branded streaming platform, we're currently making much of our content available by expanding our YouTube channel from posting just promotional clips, to presenting some of our full TV episodes, shorts and feature films.

There is a free side, with commercials, and a commercial-free membership side ($7.99/mo.) with higher quality masters.

As an example of how our content is presented, we currently offer 11 (of 13) episodes of our restored TV crime series 21 Beacon Street (1959) in SD (standard definition), but all 13 episodes are available in HD (High Definition) on the member side. We're also streaming our 4K restoration of Meet John Doe (1941) in HD on the free side, but it can only be seen in 4K UHD for members. Other exclusives on the member side include our restoration of the 1923 Our Gang short Derby Day.

We are adding new content every week, so subscribe to our channel or become a member today. Either way, you are supporting our efforts to restore and release more content on Blu-ray and DVD.

SCHEDULE & OTHER FAQ

We've been getting a lot of questions lately regarding our follow up to The Little Rascals - The Restored Silents, Volume 1. All we can say at this time is we're working very hard to make a late spring release date a reality for Volume 2, but because these shorts require a lot of restoration time it's difficult to pinpoint a precise date.

And while they will not necessarily be in this order, we can say that we expect to have the following out this year:

• The Little Rascals - The Restored Silents, Volume 2
• Lock Up - The Complete Series, Volume 1
• Hopalong Cassidy - The Legacy Collection, Volume 2
• The Little Rascals - The Restored Silents, Volume 3

There are many other releases that we'd like to happen this year, but that may not come out until 2027 due to slow sales and the restoration time it takes to complete the high level restorations we perform.

- Thanks, as always, for supporting our label!
