NEWSLETTER #14: The Missouri Traveler, Price Increases and Out of Print Titles

ClassicFlix Newsletter - Volume 5, Issue 1

THE MISSOURI TRAVELER

We're excited to share the news today that we'll be releasing the 1958 Disney-esque turn of the century family film The Missouri Traveler starring Brandon de Wilde, Lee Marvin and Gary Merrill.

Previously only available in muddy and faded prints, and cropped to anything other than the original aspect ratio, our 4K restoration of Traveler will be from an IB Tech print in excellent condition (and well-preserved color), and will also be presented in the OAR of 1.85:1 for the first time in decades.

Originally distributed by Disney's distribution arm Beuna Vista, and the second of three in producer C.V. Whitney's "American Series" of films (after The Searchers), Traveler was directed by Jerry Hopper (The Atomic City), produced by Patrick Ford (The Searchers) and features a host of the era's most colorful character actors including Paul Ford, Ken Curtis, Frank Cady and Kathleen Freeman.

The expected release will be on standard Blu-ray and DVD. Check out the raw scan clip below for a sneak peek at the source material.

PRICE INCREASES - Last of the $11.98 Blu-rays

We've put off this decision for several years, but some time in the coming months prices will be increasing on many of our top line Blu-ray titles.

With costs rising every year since we started the label in 2017, we can't maintain the same quality of restoration work for our top line releases and also keep the current retail pricing structure and expect to stay in business. We won't compromise on our restorations so our only choice is to increase prices.

This price increases:

  • will only be on Blu-rays
  • will only be on top-line releases, not Rare Television or Silver Series titles, nor any animation titles
  • will take effect on all our single feature film titles like Meet John Doe (1941), Our Town (1940) and The Proud Rebel (1958) at a new retail price of $34.99, instead of $29.99

At this time, we don't anticipate having to increase prices on special editions or collections like Hopalong Cassidy - The Legacy Collection, Volume 1 or The Little Rascals - The Restored Silents, Volume 1, but we will be increasing the price of last December's Laurel and Hardy - The Restored Features, Volume 1 and all future releases in the series to $49.99 retail, instead of $39.99.

These price increases also mean that after our 9th Anniversary Sale, which starts today, we'll no longer have our single disc feature film Blu-ray titles on sale for $11.98. As such, every non-out-of-print and non-special edition single feature film release is on sale for $11.98 for this one, last time.

OUT OF PRINT

We have many out of print titles, but 3 in particular will be disappearing forever from our site once our Anniversary Sale ends on April 30th. The titles, which are on sale, are:

Additionally, every non-out-of-print and non-special edition single feature film release is on sale for $11.98 for this one, last time.

SCHEDULE/FAQ

The bulk of recent inquiries posed to us have had to do with our upcoming schedule, mostly on when the next Hopalong or Silent Our Gang volume is expected to be released.

We have a lot of projects going on simultaneously and it is not possible to give exact times when titles will be released, but can tell you that Volume 1 of the TV series Lock-Up will be our next announced release, likely in a couple of weeks.

After that, in no particular order, we're still expecting to release the following this year:

  • Hopalong Cassidy - The Legacy Collection, Volume 2
  • Laurel and Hardy - The Restored Features, Volume 2
  • The Little Rascals - The Restored Silents, Volume 2 (& possibly Volume 3)
  • The Missouri Traveler

A few other Rare Television releases may also be in the mix for 2026, depending on sales, but we can definitely share that we'll have a crowdfund to bring Volume 2 of the lovable sitcom Angel to DVD some time later this year.
